Illustration Process - Behind the scenes videos

Videos about the illustration process. Time lapse drawings. Step by Steps. Sometimes I film the process as I draw an illustration assignment to show the process of how my drawings are made. I'm kind of nerdy that way.

Expressionist - Blue Moon Brewing Company

Blue Moon Brewing Compnay made a 30 second video about the creation of their label art to introduce the new Expressionist Collection. That's me, drawing all the stuff! It was an amazing experience to work on this project.

Bill Timmer, the director filmed the real time footage with Epic Red, and the time lapse sequences were shot on Canon 5d.

The production company built a replica of my studio in Denver, where this was filmed. And they shot 2 TV commercials at the same time.

Beer for Data - illustration process

"It was a dark time in a long, drawn-out war. Afghanistan was festering with resentment. The Pentagon brass were desperate. It was the kind of last-ditch moment when authorities start throwing an era’s weirdest ideas at its most hopeless bureaucratic mistakes."

Graham Smith creates a series of illustrations about wartime Afghanistan, for Pacific Standard magazine. This is a quick, start to finish peek into the creative process, from reading the manuscript, and sketching out the first ideas, to the final product, all done while filming the entire process - himself.

Wall of Shame - illustration process

15 minutes of Shame. People like the Clipper's owner, Donald Sterling, and "the racist, Dollar Store Lady", have been saying some hateful, racist, and homophobic things lately. So, the Boston Globe asked me to illustrate their portraits on a Wall of Shame, for an article about the folks that out their evil remarks on Twitter.

This is an illustration process, time lapse video.

Haunted House for Boston Globe

A very old house in Boston just may have ghosts. 12 of them, the owner is told, still lurk about the property.

I had a blast drawing this old haunted house for the Boston Globe section cover. Art Director: Ryan Huddle. Illustrator: Graham Smith.

I made the video while drawing the haunted house, filming with a low end Canon DSLR (T4i), and an iPhone.

Drawing Scott Keogh

Illustrator Graham Smith, inks a portrait of Audi USA's CEO, Scott Keogh for Worth Magazine, while filming it at the same time.

Pen & Ink portrait: Jazz Johnson - timelapse

I illustrate a pen and ink portrait for the 20 Questions feature in Worth Magazine each issue, and sometimes I film the drawing process. Over time, I've streamlined the process. See if you can figure out how I "cheat", when inking portraits on a deadline.

Drawing Caruso

I'm always changing my process to make drawings faster, better, or to allow for edits on assignments. In this video, Drawing Caruso, I reveal one of the tricks of the trade I use when inking a portrait. Did you see what I did there?
